Fifth century settlement areas |
Primary sources are not entirely reliable when it comes to the fifth century but, as they are all there is, they have to be listened to when it comes to attempting to plot those areas of the country which had already fallen under Jutish and Angle control. The Saxon foederati revolt had taken all of Kent, reaching almost as far as Roman London, while Cerdic had established his own bridgehead, Aella's South Saxons had already peaked and begun to fade, and Stuf and Whitgar were secure on Wight. |
