Tulunid Dynasty
AD 868 - 906
Ancient Egypt had long been controlled by
the Islamic Empire, and first drifted out of
Arabian Abbasid control under its originally faithful Tulunid governors. The
first governor, Ahmad, built one
of the oldest monuments in Cairo (which at the time was still called Fustat): the Ibn Tulun Mosque.
Eventually, the dynasty fell victim to the brief revival of
Abbasid power at the beginning of the tenth century. |
