Tribe of the Cornovii
The Cornovii had no obvious tribal centre, inhabiting Shropshire and extending
into Staffordshire, Cheshire, Clwyd, and the eastern part of Powys. There
were many hill forts, though the cultural affinities of the people remain
uncertain. By Roman times, the centre was adjacent to the hill fort of the
Wrekin and seems to derive its name from it, although this cannot be taken
as conclusive that this was an actual tribal capital.
