Sultan al-Sanusi of Dar al-Kuti |
Sultan al-Sanusi of Dar al-Kuti was photographed at Fort-Crampel in 1902, as printed in L'Illustration, 1 February 1902. The nineteenth century Central African sultanate of Dar al-Kuti was a small territory within what is now the Central African Republic. Its overlord in the 1890s was the Sudanese warlord, Rabih Fadlallah. He wanted someone in charge who was less religious and less indebted to the sultanate's former overlord, Wadai, so he deposed the ruling sultan and installed Muhammad al-Sanusi as sultan of Dar al-Kuti and Dar Rounga, with the titles of emir and sheikh. |
