Hessen-Darmstadt in 1626 |
An impression of the German city of Hessen-Darmstadt was captured in 1626 by Daniel Meissner (Merian, 1626, from Thesaurus Philopoliticus), by which time the original duchy of Hessen had been divided following the religious wars of the 1500s, but Hessen-Darmstadt had greatly increased its own power and wealth at the expense of a failing duchy of Hessen-Kassel. |
