Modern Tartu |
Estonia's second city is Tartu, with the River Emajõgi (literally the 'mother river') running through it. The city has origins that go back to a time before AD 1030 and its first mention in any written sources. That first mention was in a Kievan chronicle which describes the native Ungenois (or Ugandi) being defeated by the prince of Kyiv. |
