Map of Scandinavian petty kingdoms around AD 800 |
This map shows a host of the many petty Norwegian and Swedish kingdoms in eighth and ninth century Scandinavia, most of them Norwegian, arranged along the coastline, although penetration into the interior is clearly beginning. The south-eastern Baltic coast now contains a host of known tribes which can be collected into three major groups - Prussians, Latvians, and Lithuanians. The main body of Scandinavia is still home to uncharted Kvenish and Finnish tribes. A clickable version of this map is available for desktop displays.
