The Pioneer Museum is located behind Heritage Park in Stony Plain. The grounds have been described as being 'bigger than a cow pasture and twice as interesting'.

The Warden School is an excellent example of the iconic one-room prairie schoolhouse. Built in 1910-1911 for the cost of $750 (Canadian dollars), it was lovingly restored by museum volunteers in 2011.

Behind it is Stony Plain's original town hall, discovered in a farmyard in 2009. It was moved there after a fire destroyed the old second story to be used as a pig barn and then as a storage shed.

It could not be restored, but its surviving features and materials were integrated into the present reproduction. It now houses the oil lamp collection on the main floor and the model rail dioramas and railway history on the second floor.

The Pioneer Museum is preserving tens of thousands of objects for future generations to illustrate how rural life was experience by those people who built early Canadian communities in the west.

Bright Bank Church was built in 1909, originally as a school by August Kreye and Fred Kreye. The large low windows on one side confirm it as originally having been built as a school. It was converted into a church in 1930, and a steeple was added in 1948 when it was moved to the corner of HWY 627 and RR 21 on property which had been donated by John Kyle.

The Don Gray barn was built in 1942. It holds a special place in the museum's history as the very first building to arrive on the grounds. When it was moved here it still contained straw, manure, and even a few lingering examples of the local wildlife.

The museum features a vintage vehicle collection alongside its massive assortment of over twelve thousand pioneer artefacts and historic buildings.

Over twenty-or-so restored local buildings are displayed in interior recreations, featuring an 'International Harvester' machinery dealership, period homes, and an indoor main street.

There is also a rich collection of small domestic and household items, from pots and jars to larger utensils and domestic displays.

A large assembly of vintage tractors and agricultural equipment help to depict prairie homestead life from the 1880s to the 1950s.

A Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) office is recreated with a desk for the officer on duty and a secure gaol for one or two offenders.

The blacksmiths is a more complete restoration in the main grounds, standing behind the town hall and displaying a bewildering array of specialised tools.

All visitors have the chance of easing the strain by taking the train - from Heritage Park to the museum entrance, a short but enjoyable ride.
