In an unusual move for them, the
broadcaster for the London ITV region was the production company behind
this polished and amusing adaptation of the Terry Pratchett novel. More
famous for his Discworld series of books, Pratchett had produced
a fantasy story with wit, humour, drama and a high level of quality, which
transferred excellently to the small screen. The four-part production
boasted a big-name cast and Melvyn Bragg, no less, as its executive
producer. Johnny Maxwell, schoolchild and dreamer, fights to save a local
cemetery from developers in league with the local council. He has the full
encouragement and support of the dead who live there.
