Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Part 2: Eastern Roman Empire

The compilation of the Notitia Dignitatum, or Register of Dignitaries, is dated by most scholars to between AD 420-430 to reflect the establishment of circa 395.

It is formed of lists and pictures which begin with the item notitia dignitatum omnium tam civilium quam militarium in partibus orientis, and ends with the item ceteri praesides ad similitudinem praesidis dalmatiae officium habent. It is sometimes also known as 'Cnh' - Compilation 'notitia [to] habent'.

This copy of the translation by William Fairley has been changed to include a few current terms and to add some lists omitted by him as duplicates of others already translated. The brackets [ ] enclose words and/or numbers for which there is no equivalent in the archetype.
